The Ten Gods of Saju, Made Simple: Five Archetypes Every K-pop Fan Will Recognize

🔮 Guide · 2026-07-21 · 7 min

You've got the Five Elements. You might know your Day Master. Here's the part most intro guides skip: every stem in your full chart gets a relationship name based on how it connects to your Day Master. Those names are the Ten Gods — 십신 (十神). There are ten, but they pair into five categories, and every category is something K-pop fans already understand from groupmates, fandoms, and idol archetypes. This is the glossary you didn't know you were missing.

비겁 (比劫): the ones who just get it

비겁 is the category for stems that share your element. 비견 (比肩 — literally 'shoulder to shoulder') is the same element and same yin-yang as your Day Master: your natural peer, someone you keep up with without deciding to. 겁재 (劫財) is the same element but opposite yin-yang — your element, but the version that challenges it. Think of the groupmate who has the same foundation as you but expresses it differently, the one whose success makes you want to push harder rather than rest.

In K-pop terms: 비겁 energy is what you feel with someone at the same tier — same energy level, similar strengths. The dynamic can be warm and immediately comfortable (비견) or quietly competitive and activating (겁재). Neither is better — 비견 gives stability, 겁재 gives drive. A chart heavy with 비겁 often belongs to someone fiercely independent and deeply peer-oriented, someone who knows how to hold their own in a room full of equals.

식상 (食傷): how you show up, what you create

식상 covers the stems your element generates — your natural output. 식신 (食神 — 'Food God') is same-yin-yang output: sustained, natural, the energy you give off without trying. It's the idol who radiates good vibes from every fancam angle without noticing they're doing it — consistent, full, almost effortless. 상관 (傷官 — 'Hurting Officer') is opposite-yin-yang output: unruly, unconventional, the creative force that breaks the standard format to make something new. This is the one who refuses the easy path, rewrites the melody, adds a run no one asked for and makes the whole song hinge on it.

식신 gives; 상관 transforms. Both express the same mechanism — your element reaching outward — but 식신 does it in harmony with the existing structure and 상관 does it by rewriting the structure. If you've ever described a performer as 'they just have it' with no further explanation, that's a 식신 observation. If you've said 'I don't fully understand how they do what they do but I can't look away,' that's often 상관 at work.

재성·관성 (財星·官星): what you handle and what handles you

재성 (財星) covers the stems your element controls — the resources you can manage, channel, or spend. 정재 (正財 — Proper Wealth) is consistent, patient accumulation: the idol who puts in methodical work and has receipts for all of it. 편재 (偏財 — Partial Wealth) is broader, more dynamic, spread across multiple channels at once — the one somehow running three projects, two units, and a solo release and making all of them land. Both types are about tangible results in the world, but their relationship to effort differs: one is reliable and steady, the other is high-bandwidth and high-return.

관성 (官星) is the category for what controls your element — the structure that governs you, the accountability that shapes your output. 정관 (正官 — Proper Officer) is formal, rule-respecting: the relationship between a person and their role, the idol who is visibly the leader because the role visibly fits. 편관 (偏官 — Partial Officer) is raw pressure without the title, discipline without the ceremony — the member who isn't necessarily the leader but somehow has the whole room paying attention whenever they decide to speak.

인성 (印星): what feeds you — and how to use all five

인성 (印星) is the category for what generates your element — the source, the support, the nourishment. 정인 (正印 — Proper Seal) is the orthodox version: learning, formal knowledge, the kind of support that comes with structure — a mentor, an institution, a tradition you were handed and know how to use. 편인 (偏印 — Partial Seal) is unconventional nourishment: self-taught, intuitive, absorbed sideways — the idol who seems to have learned everything from a source nobody can name, whose knowledge has a texture that's hard to trace back to a single teacher or training program. Both 인성 types are about receiving and integrating, not producing or controlling — they're the inner resource, the reserve tank.

The Ten Gods work as a system: every chart has all five types represented somewhere, but where they show up — and how strong they are — shapes everything. Heavy 비겁 means strong self-orientation. Dominant 식상 means expression is how you process the world. Strong 재성 means you're calibrated to tangible outcomes. Dominant 관성 means structure is the frame you work within or against. Strong 인성 means you run on absorption and understanding. Most charts aren't single-type — they're layered, which is exactly what makes the full read interesting. Your Day Master is where you start; the Ten Gods give you the whole relationship map.
