What Is Korean Saju? A Free Guide for K-pop Fans (Saju vs Shichu-suimei)

🔮 Guide · 2026-06-12 · 6 min

If you found Honbit searching サジュ or 韓国 四柱推命, this one is for you. Korean Saju and Japanese Shichu-suimei grew from the same roots but read people a little differently. Here is what Saju is, how it differs from the four-pillars you may already know, and how to run your bias's chart for free.

So what exactly is Saju?

Saju (四柱) literally means “four pillars” — the year, month, day and hour of your birth, each written as a pair of characters from the sexagenary cycle. Those eight characters (your saju palja, the “eight letters”) map onto the Five Elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water — and the balance between them is read as a portrait of your temperament, your relationships, and your timing. It is the same four-pillars family as Japan's Shichu-suimei (四柱推命) and Chinese BaZi, so if you already know one, you are closer than you think.

What makes the Korean reading distinct is its emphasis on the Day Master (il-ju) — the single character standing for you — and on the relationships between people. Korean fan culture turned that relational core into a game: not just “what am I,” but “how do I read against my bias.”

Saju vs the four-pillars you may know

If you grew up with Shichu-suimei, three things will feel a little different in a Korean reading. First, the Day Master is front and center — your whole chart is read from that one element outward. Second, Korean readings lean hard on the Five-Element production and control cycles (Wood feeds Fire, Water controls Fire…) to describe the chemistry between two people. Third, the tone is warmer and more relational than fate-heavy — less “this is your destiny,” more “this is how you two spark.”

None of this requires belief. Think of it as a structured, repeatable lens — the same birthday always produces the same chart — that is genuinely fun to point at the people you care about.

How to read your bias's Saju — free

You only need two public facts: your birthday and your bias's. Honbit computes both charts, finds each Day Master, and scores the Five-Element chemistry between you — with the reading written out, not just a number. Every idol in our directory appears by name and public birthday only (18+, opt-out respected); it is a fan game, just for fun, unofficial and unaffiliated with any artist or agency.

Pick your bias, drop in two birthdays, and you will have a full Saju compatibility reading in about ten seconds — in Japanese, Korean, English and five more languages.
